How to Make Homemade Organic Laundry Products

Laundry detergent is another one of those products that is expensive and not necessarily the healthiest in the world (all those dyes and scents- yuk!) Here are a few healthy and organic alternatives you can make at home.
- Stain Remover
Mix one cup hot water, 1/2 cup baking soda, and 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide to create your own Oxi-Clean. Just soak the clothing in it for 20 minutes to overnight (depending n how dirty it is) and then wash as usual.
- Fabric Softener
There are two options here. The first is the simplest. Add a 1/4cup white vinegar in the final rinse of your washing machine cycle. The clothes will come out soft, clean and bright.
The second option is to use a painters rag or an old cut up tee-shirt. Take this piece of fabric and add a few drops of lavender oil (learn to make your own here). Lavender oil is good for your skin, and your clothes will be soft and smell great.
A bonus tip here… always include a clean tennis ball in your dryer when drying your clothes. This saves energy by cutting your drying time, and it also makes clothes and towels very fluffy
- Wrinkle Releaser
- Laundry Detergent
Unfortunately, I don’t have a recipe to offer here because I haven’t found anything organic and safe that you can make yourself. Instead, I offer a suggestion. Maggies Soap Nuts. They are all natural and pure and safe and cost less than purchasing detergent. They are also available at Amazon.com (for those of you who earn Amazon gift cards)
