Getting rid of pests, especially in the summer, can be an expensive (and icky! prospect). Glue mouse traps, “humane” mouse traps, those expensive ultrasonic sound machines, Off Spray, the list goes on and on. Or, tray some easy, cheap, healthy organic natural alternatives.
Mouse Prevention
- Mouse traps are gross. The best thing to do is to avoid having to use them by making your home an inhospitable environment for mice.
- Mice HATE peppermint oil. They absolutely abhor the smell of it. Buy a bottle of peppermint oil at your local drug store or health food store (or make it yourself… check out tomorrow’s article on making your own essential oils)
- Saturate a cotton ball in peppermint oil
- Place where there are mice or where mice are likely to want to go (bread drawer, small openings in your weather stripping, etc.
- You can also add peppermint oil to your homemade cleaning products (just a few drops in your all purpose cleaner) so that everywhere you clean becomes an inhospitable environment. Your house will smell great and be mouse free!
.
